Construction Equipment Financing: Excavators and Materials
A mini excavator is the kind of purchase a small builder weighs against renting: owning it means a payment every month, renting means a bill every time it is on a site. Excavators, skid steers, buckets and breakers carry serial numbers and resale value, so they fit equipment financing, with the machine securing the agreement. Lumber, concrete and other materials are used up on the job, which puts them on working capital or a credit line instead.
Residential builders here run lean. County Business Patterns counted 177 residential building construction establishments with paid staff in Chittenden County, VT for 2023 (NAICS 2361), and 133 of them, 75.1%, had fewer than five employees. For a crew that size, a machine payment is a large monthly line, which is why the quote and the expected hours of use belong in the request.
Business Loans for HVAC Contractors: Heat Pump Stock and Sheet-Metal Tools
An HVAC contractor buys heat pumps, line sets and ductwork before the install, and the customer pays after the system runs. That gap is stock, not equipment, and it fits inventory financing or a credit line. Sheet-metal brakes, recovery machines and vacuum pumps are tools with a long life and can go on equipment financing.
Half of the 64 plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors with paid staff in Chittenden County, VT ran crews of fewer than five in 2023: 32 establishments, or 50.0% (County Business Patterns, NAICS 238220).
Business Loan for General Contractor: What Burlington, VT Contractors Should Know
A general contractor pays subcontractors, crews and suppliers on its own schedule and gets paid on the owner's. Bonding adds another reason to manage cash with care: a performance bond is a surety's promise that the job will be finished, and the contractor applies for it with its own financial statements. Financing a machine instead of paying cash for it leaves more money in the account those statements show.
The sector is large, and most of it is small. Chittenden County, VT had 605 construction establishments with paid staff in 2023, and 66.0% of them had fewer than five employees; across the sector the average was about 8.6 employees per establishment in the mid-March pay period, our arithmetic on 5,193 employees (County Business Patterns, NAICS 23). Small Business Loans for Contractors When a Burlington, VT Contractor Needs Work Trailers
A work trailer is movable equipment, and with racks, toolboxes and a liftgate added on, it can be evaluated as one package on the dealer's invoice. A contractor adding a second trailer to support another crew can name both the trailer and the accessories in the request.
For 2025, the Census Building Permits Survey puts Chittenden County, VT's newly authorized private residential units at 1,026. That count leaves out remodels and commercial jobs, which make up the rest of a contractor's calendar. The city page for Burlington, VT gathers more county figures for builders and other trades.
Working Capital Loan for Contractors: Labor and Materials Before a Draw Comes In
On a job paid by draws, the contractor buys materials and pays the crew every week, and the draw arrives only after the stage passes inspection and the project owner signs off. Working capital or a credit line covers the weeks in between.
Illustration only, invented figures. In this example a crew's weekly payroll is $11,400 and the stage needs $27,500 of materials, with the draw paid 30 days after the work starts. A 30-day wait holds 4 or 5 weekly paydays, depending on the day the first one falls, so the gap in this example runs from $73,100 to $84,500.
Building finishing contractors, the drywall, flooring, painting and tile trades, numbered 107 with paid staff in the county in 2023, 76 of them with fewer than five employees (County Business Patterns, NAICS 2383). ZIP Code Business Patterns lists 42 construction establishments for ZIP 05401 that year, a ZIP figure on its own.
